Major Evolution of the CFI Certification Program

Effective September 1, 2026

The Global Elite Certification Board (GECB) is pleased to announce a major evolution of the Certified Fraud Investigator (CFI) certification program.

This transformation marks a significant milestone in GECB’s commitment to elevating the global standard of fraud investigation and aligning the CFI certification with the highest international professional frameworks.

Why This Evolution?

In an increasingly complex and high-risk environment, organizations require fraud investigators who are not only technically competent, but also ethically grounded, methodologically rigorous, and strategically equipped.

To meet these expectations, GECB has undertaken a comprehensive redesign of the CFI certification to:

  • Strengthen its international credibility and recognition
  • Enhance its technical depth and practical relevance
  • Align it with a global framework for fraud investigation
  • Raise the overall level of professional excellence

Key Enhancements in the New CFI Program

Effective September 1, 2026, the new edition of the CFI certification will introduce the following major changes:

Introduction of the CFI Common Body of Knowledge (CFI-CBOK)

A comprehensive and structured knowledge base covering:

  • The GECB Fraud Investigation Framework
  • The Fraud Investigation Lifecycle
  • The CFI Fraud Investigation Capability Maturity Model (CFI-FICMM)

This ensures a unified and globally aligned foundation for all certified professionals.

2 Establishment of Professional Foundations

The new CFI program formally integrates:

The CFI Code of Ethics

The CFI Professional Standards

These components provide a behavioral and methodological framework, ensuring that all CFI-certified professionals operate with integrity, consistency, and professional rigor.

3. Transition to Competency-Based Domains

The program evolves from standalone modules to comprehensive competency domains, each encompassing multiple modules.

This new structure ensures full coverage of the Fraud Risk Management lifecycle, including:

Prevention

Detection

Investigation

Reporting and response

4. Increased Certification Requirements

To further elevate the standard of excellence:

The certification will now require two (2) examinations instead of one

Candidates will be required to demonstrate relevant professional experience

A formal application and validation process will be introduced

These changes ensure that CFI-certified professionals meet the highest standards of competence, credibility, and readiness.

5. Additional Structural Enhancements

The new program includes several improvements designed to:

strengthen assessment rigor

improve candidate evaluation

enhance the overall certification experience

Transition Timeline

The current CFI certification format will be officially discontinued on August 28, 2026.

All candidates wishing to obtain the certification under the current format must:

Complete the entire certification process no later than August 28, 2026

After this date, only the new CFI certification structure will be available.

Mandatory Beta Test for Existing CFI Holders

As part of this transition:

All existing CFI-certified professionals worldwide will be required to complete a free Beta Test covering the new CFI Common Body of Knowledge.

This assessment is designed to update and validate their level of mastery

It must be completed within a maximum period of 180 days from its release

This initiative ensures that all certified professionals remain aligned with the latest standards and frameworks.

A New Global Standard

With these enhancements, the CFI certification evolves into more than a professional designation:

It becomes a global benchmark for excellence in fraud investigation.

GECB reaffirms its commitment to:

advancing the profession

strengthening organizational resilience

and promoting integrity across industries worldwide

Call to Action

Candidates interested in the current CFI format are encouraged to complete their certification before August 28, 2026

Professionals and organizations are invited to prepare for the new generation of the CFI certification, effective September 1, 2026
